Structural Functionalism A Sociological Perspective

Sociology is the study of human group behavior, it looks at society as a whole. This group is sometimes called the sociological perspective (Ballantine Roberts, 2007). Many different people view the world differently; either as structural functionalism, conflict theory, or symbolic interactionism. Each one of these refer to the world inversely. Some view the world as situations just work out, or it is continuously in conflict, or the world is just primarily a place where people have relationships. Structural functionalism best describes the view of the world and varies roles that are played by different people. Structural functionalism is a theory that views society as a complete unit (Ballantine Roberts, 2007). Emile Durkheim is the father of Structural Functionalism. They look at society the same way as someone looks at a formula for a math equation. They view the equation as a whole before using the formula to play a role in the equation itself. In order for structural functiona lism to work there needs to be an agreement on the norms, values, and beliefs for the better of society. If these objectives are not meant then Structural Functionalism will crumple before it builds its foundation. Conflict theory is a theory that offers varies of different perspective from structural functionalism (Ballantine Roberts, 2007). There are many differences between the two.
